The killing gene
VICE President Sara Duterte, or at least her defenders in social media, are now citing an alleged assassination attempt. They are now using this to provide some reason for her insanely irresponsible, even criminal, act of threatening the lives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and speaker Martin Romualdez.
I, together with a majority of the people I know who I can easily surmise, reflect the overall sentiment of the vast majority of Filipinos, really find this hard to believe. At the time she showed a wound in her neck, the vice president was already at odds with Malacañang. With her predisposition to go for the dramatic, and if such an attempt really happened, she would have turned ballistic. After all, this was how she reacted when the government reduced the number of her security personnel. It is hard to imagine how she can let an assassination attempt, more so one she suspected to have been ordered by her political enemies, pass without any flair for the dramatic. Instead, she was on record making light of the wound in her neck.
