After a successful weekend in China, the LPGA Tour has reached Malaysia for the second week of its Asian swing. The 2024 Maybank Championship is among the newer events on the Tour, marking this just the second edition. Seventy-eight female golfers worldwide will play over four days, from October 24 to October 27 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club for $3 million.

Celine Boutier defeated Jeeno Thitikul after a nine-hole playoff, to clinch the trophy at the event’s inaugural edition back in 2023. Apart from the defending champion and the runner-up last year, World No. 2 Lilia Vu is the top-ranked player at the championship this weekend. Now, that you know how exciting the field looks like, you sure want to know when will everyone tee off.

Despite the field being a star-studded one, the Rolex No. 1 player at the moment will not be a part of the field in Malaysia this week. Nelly Korda was already on a hiatus and was supposed to return for the Asian Swing, but she did not. Why? A painful injury struck.

Nelly Korda is battling injury ahead of the 2024 Maybank Championship

At the inaugural edition of the 72-hole event in Malaysia, Nelly Korda finished with a T6 tying with, Brooke Henderson and Gemma Dryburgh with an impressive 17-under. A few days ago, she took to her social media and announced that she would not be a part of either the much-awaited BMW Championship in Korea or the Maybank Championship.

She had to withdraw last moment due to a minor neck injury she suffered during her practice round. “I’m disappointed to miss these events and am especially sorry to my fans who were looking forward to seeing me play. I’m currently resting and working with my team to get better”, she said.

Nelly Korda’s next start will likely be The Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican in Belleair, Florida, November 14–17. She won the event in 2021 and 2022. Are you excited to see her play again? Who are you rooting for this weekend in Malaysia?
