A man in Malaysia recently attracted attention for his unconventional choice of fishing location, opting for the indoor canal of a popular shopping mall in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, rather than the traditional lakes, ponds, or rivers.

On Oct 6, a video of this unidentified individual fishing in the mall was shared on TikTok, quickly gaining about 390,000 views.

The man, sporting a pink sling bag and wielding a fishing rod, is seen standing in front of a restaurant, as he enthusiastically attempts to reel in one of the fish swimming in the mall’s moat-like water feature.

As the unusual scene unfolded, a mall security officer speaks into a walkie-talkie while gesturing to the man to cease his activity. The man ignores the request and continues his fishing efforts, much to the amusement of nearby shoppers, who watched with curiosity.

In a follow-up video posted on Oct 10 by the same TikTok user, it was revealed that the incident took place at The Mines Shopping Mall.

The second video shows the man leaving his initial spot, fishing rod in hand but with no catch to show for it. As he walks away, he briefly taps the security officer on the shoulder before moving to another location within the mall to resume his fishing.

The TikTok videos also sparked a series of humorous comments, with several viewers suggesting that husbands waiting for their wives to finish shopping could benefit from this unusual pastime.

One commenter quipped: “If fishing is allowed… even if the husband has to wait for his wife to shop for hours, it won’t be a problem!”
