Steven Spielberg couldn’t have written it any better.

Czechia’s Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac have won Olympic gold in the tennis mixed doubles, just weeks after ending their romantic relationship.

The pair defeated China’s Zhang Zhizhen and Wang Xinyu in a match tie break, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8, to claim gold at Roland Garros.

Siniakova, 28, and Machac, 23, were an item from 2020 but confirmed in the weeks before Paris that they had agreed to part ways.

On a personal level, at least, as they remained committed to playing doubles together.

“Yes, it’s true, but this is my private matter. Of course we will play, we are professionals,” Siniakova said at the time.

But in a twist only seen in the cheesiest of film romcoms, sparks could be flying once again after the pair shared a kiss after winning the tournament.

They had a sweet embrace atop the dais as their national anthem played, during which Siniakova broke down in tears of joy before having a kiss planted on her cheek by Machac.

And it prompted the obvious question from reporters, but Siniakova wouldn’t be drawn into divulging any more details about their personal life.

“That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that,” Siniakova said.

“We like when you are confused.”

Machac chimed in with: “This is top secret.”

Social media has since gone into meltdown, with fans treating it just like a Hollywood script.

“New Hallmark movie just dropped,” one said.

Another went a step further and even wrote the rest of the script for film producers.

“And here’s your movie plot,” they started.

“After the Olympics, despite winning gold, they break up. 10 years pass.

“Now Katerina is 39 and single. Nearing her 40th birthday, she is coaching a younger tennis player, when she runs into her old tennis partner.

“Title of the movie: 40-Love.”

Siniakova is now a back-to-back Olympic champion after winning gold in the women’s doubles in Tokyo.

She also won the women’s doubles at Wimbledon earleir this year.
