Man shares little-known ‘leg room button’ that gives you extra space on planes
A traveller shared a nifty trick for those looking to enjoy a bit more legroom on their next flight – and it won’t cost you a penny extra.
Mike Corey, who goes by @fearlessandfar on TikTok, revealed the simple method in a short video, explaining how passengers can escape the ‘economy nightmare’ if they’ve snagged an aisle seat.
In his clip, he explained: “There’s a secret legroom button on planes. If you’ve got those thick thunder thighs like I do, the armrest is always in the way. If you’re in an aisle seat, you can’t move it but there is a secret button that allows you to lift it. It frees your legs from the economy nightmare.”
To take advantage of this space-enhancing feature, flyers need to only find the hidden button situated on the underside of the armrest, near the hinge. A simple press and lift of the armrest can provide that much-needed relief for your legs. However, it should be noted the location of this button may vary depending on the aircraft model.
The travel hack has been met with gratitude and surprise online. One user expressed: “I never knew this.” Others chimed in with praise, with remarks such as “May Jesus bless you all” and “Bless you handsome”.
Another thankful flyer said: “Thanks! I did not know that and I have travelled from Thailand to Indonesia to China.” Yet, some seasoned travellers were astonished this tip was considered a revelation, pointing out it’s been a feature on many planes for years. Among the comments, one user recalled: “They asked me to keep it down last time.”
While another stated: “Secret?! It’s been there on many seats for decades.” Someone else commented: “Only a secret to those who don’t already know. Also: not all planes have it.”
Another added: “Please don’t do this unless you have to, the arms don’t move normally so people don’t block the aisles at food time or leave in an emergency.” A final user shared: “I did that once and so my leg was very slightly in the aisle. And an attendant hit me with a cart.”
