BBC Race Across the World fans say the same thing about new series just minutes in

The BAFTA-award winning BBC travel series ‘Race Across the World’ made its comeback to our screens on Wednesday April 23, and viewers didn’t hesitate to voice their opinions shortly after the first episode commenced.

Launching its fifth season, the show saw five pairs embark on a daunting expedition covering over 14,000km from the iconic Great Wall of China to Kanniyakumari at the tip of India.

They were allocated a limited budget corresponding to the typical cost of a flight for the journey, equating to a mere £22 per day. It was no small feat with such restricted funds at hand.

In a twist this year, contestants have been stripped of both smartphones and bank cards, navigating their adventure strictly with the allocated cash, all while vying for the enviable £20,000 jackpot.

This season’s line-up features vibrant teams including teenage lovebirds Fin and Sioned, mother-and-son duo Caroline and Tom, and sisters Elizabeth and Letitia, as reported by Wales Online.

Social media lit up with reactions from fans commenting on the premiere, many echoing a similar sentiment. A fan praised the programme as “the best thing on TV,” a view supported by others, with remarks such as “Undoubtedly the best programme on TV.”

Others shared their excitement, one enthusiast putting it: “Race across the world time! Taps into my competitive side as well feeding my love of travel! Some of the best tv!” Another viewer expressed delight, proclaiming: “Real TV is back.”

Fans of the popular series rejoiced on social media as one person stated: “Happy Race Across the World day to all who celebrate. Knowing it’s on got me through work,” while another enthusiast expressed their excitement, saying: “Wednesday nights are so back with Race Across the World.”

A viewer candidly shared their shift in viewing preference, commenting: “Dropping Big Brother like a stone now that Race Across the World is back,” pointing out the disappointment due to the simultaneous broadcasting of BBC’s Race Across The World and ITV’s Celebrity Big Brother.

Another aficionado lamented the tough choice between shows, voicing: “Having to choose Celebrity Big Brother over Race Across The World. I hate whoever has forced me to make this decision,” revealing their frustration over the scheduling conflict.
