Britain’s Got Talent has been the launchpad for many stars, including the unforgettable father-son act, Stavros Flatley. Fans will recall their memorable first audition as if it were yesterday, but it actually took place 16 years ago in 2009.

Lagi Demetriou, who gained fame on Britain’s Got Talent as one half of the comedic duo Stavros Flatley, was just 12 when he performed in front of judges Piers Morgan, Amanda Holden, Kelly Brook and Simon Cowell.

The pair had audiences in stitches with their act, a playful imitation of Michael Flatley’s renowned Riverdance. The act quickly became a fan favourite, making it to the final and finishing in fourth place.

Now 27, Lagi is a dad of two and runs his own business in Cyprus. However, he hasn’t entirely left his dancing days behind, reports the Mirror.

To mark St Patrick’s Day, he delighted fans by posting a TikTok video of himself performing Stavros Flatley’s signature routine. Dancing to an Irish jig, Lagi entertained his wife and children while recreating the hilarious moves that first brought him fame.

The nostalgic moment was a hit with fans. One remarked: “This has absolutely made my day!” while another commented: “Stavros Flatley! This brings back so many memories!” A third wrote: “I needed this big smile this morning, thank you!”.

In a romantic gesture on New Year’s Eve 2020, he popped the question to his long-time girlfriend Annika Crawford after a five-year relationship. The couple tied the knot in Summer 2022.

Their first child, a daughter named Xenia, arrived in March 2022, and they added another girl, Demetria Demetriou, to their family the following year.

Back in 2009, Lagi, alongside his dad, Demi, captured hearts across the nation with their hilarious Greek version of Lord of the Dance performance, donning leather pants and humorous blonde wigs. Despite the duo’s memorable audition, they came fourth, finishing behind dance troupe Diversity, Susan Boyle and Julian Smith.

Yet, they made a spectacular comeback for the ‘Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions’ series ten years later, once again reaching the final and achieving a runner-up position.

Since his time in the spotlight, Lagi has chosen a quieter life, relocating to Cyprus where he runs a barber shop in Paphos and entertains listeners with his podcast, CoolerBox. The devoted dad has even inked a large tattoo of the island on his abdomen, reminiscent of his own dad’s iconic display during their initial BGT performance.

The lad we once marvelled at as a cherubic 12 year old has transformed, now sporting a full dark beard and numerous tattoos. While his dad has reignited the Stavros Flatley act with his nephew Samson, Lagi remains connected to dance.

In an exclusive 2019 chat with MailOnline, he revealed Simon Cowell implored him not to abandon dancing for good, hinting he might still grace the stage with occasional appearances.

Lagi recounted: “When we got to The Champions, I thought this was the right time to leave. But Simon Cowell told me not to quit forever. So I will return for some shows.”

With a decade of performances under his belt, Lagi sensed it was time for a new chapter. Reflecting on past glories, he mused, “We’ve done this for 10 years for a joke. We’ve done so many amazing things but what is there left to do? We’ve done the Royal Variety, we’ve played in China, Monaco – everywhere. So when we got to The Champions, I thought this was the right time to leave.”

Nevertheless, Stavros Flatley made a triumphant comeback in 2019 on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, where the duo dazzled. Post-performance, Demi exclaimed: “I want to say this show is amazing. We’ve been all over the world and done things and been to places we never thought we’d be. And it’s down to you guys.”

In a heartfelt turn, Demi faced Lagi and confessed his overwhelming pride. Overcome with emotion, he declared, “I watched him grow up from here to here and I’ve never been so proud of as I am now. Thanks for everything,” and embraced his son in a warm hug.
