Recently, a young man named Abhay Singh aka Masani Gorakh, spotted at the Maha Kumbh Mela took the Internet by storm. Later, he decided to leave the field of science and became a monk.
Around 3.5 crore devotees took the Amrit Snan on Makar Sankranti on Tuesday. Today, the event entered its third day. Celebrated at the Triveni Sangam, Maha Kumbh takes place once in every twelve years. It celebrates the meeting of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati – the three sacred rivers.
The Kumbh Mela is held in Haridwar, Prayagraj, Ujjain and Nashik. Prayagraj hosts the Maha Kumbh Mela permanently. The Kumbh Mela has been linked to bathing in sacred waters in a bid to atone for sins. There are six baths or snans in Maha Kumbh. These include the three royal baths (Amrit Snan) and three other baths.
