While not as popular as ice hockey or the NFL, figure skating as a sport is mesmerizing. Watching the performers dish out stunning performances with poise is scintillating. From Hana Maria Aboian and Daniil Veselukhin to Annika Chao, the athletes can take the fans’ breath away with their grace. And now, fans of the ice dance have probably found their next star in the most unlikely place.
Carlos Alcaraz started his 2025 Australian Open with a bang. Defeating Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko in the first round, the 21-year-old tennis star has blitzed into the second round. However, even if Alcaraz’s campaign to win his maiden Australian Open title doesn’t come to fruition, fans believe he could have a viable career in figure skating.
Eurosport took to X on January 14, to note its amusement at the young Spaniard’s pose during his first-round match. However, as the social media update points out, this isn’t the first time that Alcaraz has put out such an athletic display. Captioned, “New year, new haircut… Same Carlos Alcaraz,” the X post shows how some things will always be the same for the Spaniard with 4 Grand Slam titles despite whatever changes his appearance goes through. And the figure skating community wasn’t late to note how it would love to call Carlos its own.

Alcaraz won his first match of the 2025 Grand Slam at the Margaret Court Arena 6-1 7-5 6-1 on Monday. With that, he’s now slated to lock horns with Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the Round of 64 today. However, right now, figure skating fans only want to see if Carlos has more of his stance where it came from.
“Has a better leg and position than some skaters,” one fan noted his admiration at how the tennis icon looked comfortable in stretching himself out without breaking a sweat. Another fan was simply gaga at how perfect Alcaraz’s pose looked, and commented, “he’s art.” Looking to win his fifth Grand Slam title at such a young age, Carlos had even more fans from other communities ponder if they have a chance to call him their brethren.
Another fan of a sport that also demands the highest athleticism from its stars, wondered how Alcaraz’s pose would be graded by their community. “Gymnastics fans… would you give credit for his ring kick?” the fan sounded curious. Wonder how the likes of Simone Biles or Nadia Comaneci would score the tennis sensation’s flexibility. Pretty high, we’d wager.

For another fan, it seems to be the life of a ballerina instead that the hard court specialist can consider delving into after his tennis career ends. “Swan Lake in Melbourne Park,” said the fan earnestly. Another fan affirmed the conjecture and commented, “The Swan Lake realness,” hailing Alcaraz as a king. Alcaraz is looking to be in great form as his 2025 campaign begins, and if he goes all the way in Australia this time, his elite status will be sealed. But the fans have more pressing thoughts to keep themselves occupied.
“Being able to perform the same movements means you are mentally and physically stable,” said a fan who didn’t care if it was figure skating or gymnastics that Carlos Alcaraz picked up. Instead, this fan is just impressed by how consistent the tennis star has been in ensuring top physical condition. Another fan wrote, “complete animal.” Were you just as blindsided by the scenes that unfolded in the first round of the Australian top-tier tournament? Tell us what you foresee for Carlos after his pursuit of tennis perfection ends in the comments!
