MANILA, Philippines – Cong Caphe, Vietnam’s popular café chain, is more than just a coffee shop — it’s the love letter and brain child of founder Linh Dung, a former performance artist.
Metro Manila’s coffee scene is about to get a Vietnamese twist this year! The coffee shop famous for its signature coconut coffee is opening its first branch in mid-February at Gateway 2 Mall, General Araneta, Cubao, Quezon City.
“People can expect to be able to drink their favorite Vietnamese coconut coffee right here in the Philippines,” the local franchise told Rappler, promising to transport coffee lovers straight to Hanoi.
Founded in 2007 by Linh Dung, Cong Caphe is her personal story of nostalgia, culture, and creativity. Inspired by her artistic upbringing and childhood memories, Dung envisioned a café that could “transcend” the ordinary café experience. The brand’s first branch opened along Hanoi’s historic Trieu Viet Vuong street, a haven for café culture.
It instantly became a trendsetter for its rustic charm, retro furniture, historical decor, and vintage aesthetics that evoke the charm of old Hanoi.
As teased on Facebook, Cong Caphe’s Philippine branch will have a “unique theme” as well. Dung calls it her distinctive “Vietnam Vintage Style,” characterized by rustic charm, nostalgia, and subtle humor.
“Is it inspired by a family home, a bustling canteen, a creative factory, a disciplined army, or a vibrant school?”
Cong Caphe will serve its best-selling Coconut Coffee, which is inspired by Trang Tien Ice Cream, a Hanoi street specialty. “The creaminess of coconut milk brilliantly mixed with the bitterness of coffee is the secret of our success,” the brand said. The branch will also serve Green Rice, one of Hanoi’s culinary specialties, Coconut Pho Coffee, and more.
Cong Caphe has over 63 stores across Vietnam, and 21 stores internationally in Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Canada. – with reports from Rowz Fajardo/Rappler.com
