A Lady Gaga fan has shared footage of herself crying, claiming that the star’s “manager” blocked her from meeting her idol.
New York-based TikTok user Jojo Hadid, who works as a model and announced earlier in November that she is pregnant, last week took to the platform to share snippets from her recent trip to Japan, where she visited Tokyo and Kyoto.
As Hadid prepared to fly home last weekend, she posted a clip that showed her indulging in sushi while seated in Japan Airlines’ first class lounge. She then whispered to the camera that singer and actor Gaga had “just walked in—she’s beside me.”
“I’m going to cry,” read a screen caption. “She’s the number one love of my f****** life.”
In another post, Hadid wrote that Gaga had “just walked into the airport lounge and she’s SITTING beside me. THIS WOMAN MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME BUT I HATE BOTHERING PEOPLE WHEN THEY’RE IN THEIR SAFE SPACE.”
Hadid then highlighted a post that she had shared just a day before, in which she said that she found out Gaga “is headlining Coachella but I’m giving birth that weekend.” She shared a screenshot of a message exchange with her mother, where they joked about the baby “ruining” her chance of seeing Gaga perform.
However, as the video progressed, Hadid was seen dabbing away tears, as she said to the camera: “I had to go to my gate, and [Gaga’s] manager said I was not allowed to say hi. I’m really pregnant and hormonal, so I’m sad.”
“I literally looked at him and I was like, ‘Can I say hi?’ And he was like, ‘no,’ which I get,” she said of their purported interaction. “People don’t want to be bothered when they’re like in their quiet space.”
Newsweek has contacted a representative of Gaga via email for comment.
As of press time, the video has garnered more than 2.4 million views on TikTok. It has also been shared on X, formerly Twitter, where it has clocked up more than 1.9 million views. Several social media users have tagged Gaga in the hope of drawing her attention to the clip.
After the video went viral, Hadid returned to clarify a few points, including stating that she wasn’t sure whether the man who she interacted with actually worked as a manager for Gaga, whose given name is Stefani Germanotta.
She also said that Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy was among those in the airport lounge at the time. Levy recently shared photos on Instagram that showed he had visited Japan with a group that included The Crown star Emma Corrin.
“There were very few people in the lounge. It is dead silent in there,” Hadid said on TikTok. “It’s also Japan, like, people are very quiet. I’m not screaming like, ‘Gaga, I love you!’ I’m not doing that. It’s inappropriate. I’m an adult woman, OK?”
Hadid added that, being from New York, “you just ignore celebrities, you let them live their life,” as she sought to explain why she didn’t directly approach Gaga. “I actually just don’t feel comfortable going up to celebrities and talking to them. If it were me, I am such a paranoid person, like I would be extremely uncomfortable.
“I am so aware of my surroundings and my safety that I would never go up to somebody and get into their personal space, especially when it’s dead silent.”
She added that Gaga was “hiding behind a f****** wall” at the time she saw her. “Like, it’s very obvious…she didn’t want to be spoken to, and that’s fine. Of course. I’m so sad, I cried the whole flight home. But like, I’m also f****** pregnant, OK? Like, I don’t even cry usually. I’m unhinged right now.”
Hadid went on to state that Gaga, who she said was in the airport lounge with her fiancé Michael Polansky, “did not see me ask” to greet her.
“Her and Michael were sitting quietly. They were both watching their iPads being so cute,” she continued. “Who knows, maybe she was catching up on Real Housewives of OC. I would have loved to talk to her about that.”
“It is not my place to go and speak to someone who’s with her husband enjoying some private time. That is why I asked,” she added. “We’re in a f****** silent room together. Nobody’s going up to her. I felt like it was respectful to ask to come into her space. It was not approved. I’m not gonna f****** go and scream like a banshee.”
Hadid, who said she would approach Gaga if she saw her on the street in New York City, said of her tearful episode: “I’m pregnant. Like, you just cry. Like, literally, you drop something off the table, you start crying. It’s not that serious.
“I love her so much. I wish her the best. I’m so happy. She’s happy with Michael, they looked so cute.”
