A distressing incident unfolded on the Downtown Line MRT train in Singapore when a man vomited in the carriage. The event, which reportedly occurred on October 31, was recorded and shared widely across social media, sparking a significant wave of public reactions. Unfortunately, this incident has also prompted a surge of racist comments directed towards individuals of Indian descent. The officials are yet to disclose the man’s ethnicity.
The video depicts a man, who appears quite unwell, leaning against the window of the train while vomiting, which understandably made viewers uncomfortable. However, it also ignited a wave of racial slurs targeting the Indian community. Reportedly, this incident occurred at Bedok Reservoir station; however, despite his apparent distress, the man remained on the train until it reached Expo station.
SBS Transit was alerted to the incident around 3:45 PM. Upon arrival at the Expo station, staff members found the man in urgent need of assistance. Officials confirmed that he had vomited in the carriage and promptly took the necessary actions to address the situation. A cleaning crew was dispatched to thoroughly clean and disinfect the area before the train resumed its service on that route.
The incident quickly gained traction online, with many travellers expressing their discomfort and concerns on social media. Unfortunately, it also triggered a wave of racist comments directed at individuals of Indian origin. Many of these comments were made based solely on the man’s appearance, despite authorities not disclosing his nationality or ethnic background.
A comment read, “Indian magician master.”
Another comment read, “Real foreign talent…more like him will come…”
A user called him “Ashok Kumar” referring to his alleged Indian nationality.
Another user added, “Ya all ask government to bring more. Then you all willing to do what they doing now?”
The comments section was inundated with racist remarks aimed at the Indian community in response to the incident.
