Ineos have posted on social media for the first time since Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman was relieved of his duties on Monday morning following a disappointing start to the season.
A club statement read: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”
Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Ten Hag, with United sitting 14th in the Premier League on just 11 points from their opening nine matches. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge on an interim basis ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie with Leicester.

After keeping Ten Hag in the summer, Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have made the decision as they attempt to turn the club’s fortunes around. Now, Ineos have posted a message on social media for the first time since choosing to axe Ten Hag and appointing Van Nistelrooy as interim, looking at how their sporting interests fared over the weekend.
Ineos said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Double points in Mexico for @MercedesAMGF1, @lausanne_sport dominates 3-0 and the @AllBlacks open their Northern Tour with a victory over Japan. Here are this weekend’s highlights,” followed by the backhand index pointing down emoji. The video showed a short summary of what happened, with United’s defeat at West Ham and the Premier League table showing United’s lowly position included.
For context, Ineos have posted these updates every Monday since United took over, although this one is a little delayed in comparison to some of the previous tweets.
Alongside United, Ineos own Lausanne-Sport in the Swiss Super League, is the co-owner and principle partner of Formula One team Mercedes and is the performance partner of New Zealand’s All Blacks.
