Coronation Street Gail’s murder ‘sealed’ as killer ‘exposed’

Coronation Street enthusiasts are speculating that a resident of the cobbles is set to kill Gail Platt in a tragic plot twist.

The departure of soap icon Helen Worth, who portrays Gail, was confirmed in June after a 50-year tenure on the show. Originally, her exit storyline was supposed to involve Gail’s ex-husband Martin Platt (played by Sean Wilson).

However, despite having already filmed several weeks’ worth of scenes, it was reported that Sean had left the show. Consequently, the soap brought back former star John Thomson, who plays Jesse, to be part of Gail’s exit storyline.

Last week saw the return of Jesse, and it was revealed that he and Gail had previously had a holiday romance while travelling in Thailand. Jesse has since had conflicts with Gail’s children Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and David (Jack P. Shephard).

Tensions have escalated since Gail decided to sell her and David’s house to raise funds for granddaughter Bethany’s (Lucy Fallon) medical expenses, reports the Liverpool Echo.

However, Wednesday’s episode (October 23) took a dramatic turn when Gail appeared to be having a heart attack, prompting Jesse to call an ambulance. She was rushed to hospital where she went into cardiac arrest.

Doctors later informed the Platts that Gail had a blockage in her artery and would need surgery to insert a stent. However, fans are now predicting that Gail will be killed off following the announcement of her departure.

In a shocking twist, they believe someone will murder her. In a flurry of chatter on a Corrie Facebook fan group, one member expressed their concern: “Poor Gail, I really hope she’s going to be ok.”

Another speculated: “What if all along David is going to murder Gail and there is no happy ending exit for her.”

Another fan chimed in with a reply, “Would he really murder his mum? ” This prompted another to suggest: “He has a dark side. And it’s about time he has a decent storyline.” One more added, feeling strongly: “If Gail gets killed off I will riot, but I can see this happening.”

Reflecting on her impending exit, Helen said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.

“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.”
