Perth schoolteacher reportedly struck by crane at Parasite Deja Vu Festival music festival in Japan

A Perth schoolteacher has reportedly been seriously injured in a horror incident in Japan after a crane crashed down onto a crowd of music festival attendees.

The woman suffered a fractured skull when the crane carrying heavy camera equipment fell onto a crowd of people attending the Parasite Deja Vu Festival in Osaka on Sunday, according to Australian and Japanese media outlets.

She is believed to be among four people injured in the incident, a vision of which was posted to social media.

Footage appears to show the crane — which is believed to have weighed about 240kg — collapsing onto the crowd of people below.

It’s unclear if the Perth woman is still in hospital, and what her current condition is.

According to Japanese media outlet The Asahi Shimbun, the crane was about 10 metres long and struck as many as four female audience members ranging in age from their 20s to 40s.

“The women were all bleeding from head injuries. All four remained conscious and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening,” the outlet reported.

The music event was temporarily suspended after the accident but resumed later.

An estimated 14,000 people attended the festival, which was held over two days.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been contacted for comment.
