Penticton’s Slackwater Brewing announces closure of taproom for end of October

After five years of running its taproom on Martin Street in the heart of downtown, Penticton’s Slackwater Brewing has announced its closure, with its last day at the end of the month.

The brewery first opened in June 2019, as a “family and friend” ran business, brought about by Penticton resident Kelsey (Guerard) Peyton, and her husband Liam.

The brewpub-style brewery, grew from brewing to serve on-site customers, to expanding sales into four provinces.

In the social media post, Slackwater said they made the “difficult decision to permanently close” the taproom due to the “financial and operational challenges” they have faced in recent years.

Slackwater spoke to Castanet in January on challenges with the slow season and CEBA loans.

“This choice [is] necessary for the sustainability of our business. We want to assure our loyal customers that our production and distribution will continue unaffected. We’re proud to serve our award-winning craft beer across four provinces and remain committed to delivering the quality you know and love,” they stated in their social media announcement Tuesday.

Slackwater will have its final day of service on Saturday, Oct. 26.
