Even in Record-Breaking Olympics Game, Diana Taurasi Trolls 5’5″ Rival With Hilarious Move in USA’s Blowout Win

The quest for Diana Taurasi to become the greatest basketball Olympian has had a tremendous start. In a one-sided affair, Team USA dominated their Tokyo Olympics Final opponents, Japan, and secured a 102-76 victory. While surpassing Sue Bird’s tally of 5 Olympic gold medals is one of the things on everyone’s minds, people are also excited to see the White Mamba’s ability to overpower her opponents on the hardwood. And she provided another glimpse of that on Monday.

Apart from the lapses from beyond the arc, Team USA seemed to be in total control. A scintillating exhibition that included 64 points in the paint clearly exhibits their commanding status. Speaking of commanding status, that’s up the alley of their veteran figure, Diana Taurasi. After making quite a reputation for herself courtesy of her physicality in the league, the 3× WNBA champion welcomed another such moment when she had no issues handling Japan’s 5 ft 5 in point guard Nako Motohashi.

Japan, whose tallest player stands 6 ft 1 in, was having a hard time against their opponents in which 6 players had that height and some were even taller. Consequently, the moment gained traction on social media as one of the fans posted a picture on X. Expressing his take, the fan captioned his post, “BRO I AM CRYING why is DT like this.”

The rough and intimidating nature of play is nothing new for anyone who follows Taurasi’s game. She was in some bad books recently when her rugged approach resulted in a technical foul she forced against Wings’ center, Teaira McCowan. However, the Mercury went on to win the overtime thriller 97-90 with Taurasi scoring 20 points. Still, she received backlash for this particular on-court antic.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t take away the fact that the 6-foot guard had an impactful outing.

Despite starting the game, the 42-year-old spent a total of only 14:49 minutes in the middle. These were enough for her to produce 2 points while shooting 1 of 2 from the field, along with 3 rebounds. Anyhow, the highlight of her performance appeared very early in the opening quarter itself.

With 6:03 to go and the scores being 8-4, after a rebound from Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi launched a phenomenal long pass to A’ja Wilson just below the other end of the basket, resulting in a layup.

Whether big or small, Diana Taurasi’s contributions are noteworthy. There is no denying that she has been a tremendous ambassador and performed her national duties to the fullest. With a host of records in sight, fans will hope that her last dance at the Olympics is a record-breaking affair.
