External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday convened with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Tokyo to discuss measures to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in security, trade, and education. Enhanced collaboration across the Indo-Pacific region was also on the agenda.
The discussions took place during their visit to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The Quad, comprising Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, aims to ensure free and open sea routes in the Indo-Pacific.
Jaishankar shared on social media that he looks forward to advancing these conversations further at the meeting. The visit follows his ‘wide-ranging’ talks with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, amid recent diplomatic activities in the region.
