At least two dead and 23 injured after knifeman storms hospital in ‘vicious assault’ in China
AT LEAST two people have been killed and a further 23 wounded following a knife rampage at a hospital in southwest China.
The attack took place in Zhenxiong County People’s Hospital in Yunnan province’s northeast, state media report.
The nature of the attack remains unclear but is said to have taken place at 1.20pm local time (5.20am GMT).
“The incident occurred at a local hospital and as of 1:20 pm (0520 GMT)… more than ten people have been wounded or killed,” state news agency Xinhua said.
The outlet described it as a “vicious assault”.
An online post from Guizhou province television citing unnamed authorities, however, has since confirmed that two had died and 23 people were injured.
The death toll is expected to rise as a result of many people being wounded in the attack.
One witness who narrowly escaped the attack told Red Star News that one or more doctors were among the injured.
According to a Guizhou TV post, a suspect has since been arrested.
“Multiple videos from the scene also show a suspect being apprehended by police in a [nearby] wellness center,” the outlet reported.
