A cafe near Plymouth is drawing in locals and tourists with its tasty food and amazing views. Based on a cliff edge, the Bovisand eatery is a welcoming place to grab coffee or a bite while walking the South West Coast Path.
The Cliff Edge Cafe looks over sandy Bovisand beach, which gets extremely busy in summertime. The cafe keeps busy all-year-round as it’s extremely dog friendly, so local people taking their pooches for walks can pop in for a coffee and a free doggie treat.
Owner, Olivia Cowan, opened the cafe in 2021 in the quirky building that was once an old rope store. The 47-year-old says she loves running the family business in the popular beauty spot, the Cliff Edge Cafe is one of just two cafes in the area.

She said: “Everyday when I drive down to the cafe, I look at the view and think how lucky we are to work in this lovely spot. We keep busy all year and all of our customers are fantastic. We also love dogs at the Cliff Edge Cafe and we’re very dog friendly here.”
The Cliff Edge Cafe is rated number one of 206 cafes on TripAdvisor for “Quick Bites in Plymouth”. It was also awarded Travelers’ Choice status by TripAdvisor in 2023, the Traveller’s Choice award honours favourite restaurants across the UK based on reviews.
Greg Rendle, from Plymouth, reviewed Cliff Edge Cafe on TripAdvisor. He wrote: “We absolutely love this little cafe at one of our favourite spots. The food is always amazing and so well presented. All the staff are brilliant and are so attentive. Always get our little table reserved as it can get busy at times.”
Also from Plymouth, Dr John wrote on TripAdvisor: “An outstanding cafe with beautiful views across Bovisand. Lovely friendly service. A great menu of hot and cold food. The doorstep sandwiches are incredible and beautifully presented. Very well priced and generous portions. We visit here often and will continue to.”
Another recent review on TripAdvisor by Sally P said: “Lovely place to have breakfast or lunch. Good choice of food, beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Love the quirky teapots and fab views. Friendly staff. Will definitely return.”
Selling a selection of tasty bites, cakes, breakfasts, hot and cold drinks including a deluxe hot chocolate and deluxe milkshake. Olivia explained that the burgers served at the cafe are all homemade on site.
Yummy cakes at the Cliff Edge Cafe are sourced from Plymouth business, Cakewhole and the selection changes week to week. Cakes are served on pretty china plates with various eye-catching designs.
Whatever the season or weather, this cosy cafe is a great location for some refreshment and sensational views. The friendly cafe also offers takeaway and there are vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu.
