Don’t open these links on WhatsApp, warns Delhi Police – Times of India

Got a message on WhatsApp claiming to offer free access to video streaming apps like Amazon Prime video or Netflix? If yes, then be warned. These are malicious links that are meant to steal your data, including banking details.
Delhi Police Cybercrime has warned people against these fraudulent links via a post on microblogging site Twitter. In the tweet, the Police has asked internet users not to click on such links as well as forward them to others on WhatsApp. It says that the links have been flagged as malicious by multiple antivirus engines and have been blocked.
“These messages have URLs/Links which are flagged as malicious by multiple antivirus engines. The Links have been blocked…. WARNING… Never click on such links. Never forward to others,” says the DCP Cybercime’s tweet.

In the Twitter post, the Police has also shared screenshots of some of the messages that a user may receive on WhatsApp. “Get 2 months of Amazon Premium Free anywhere in the world for 60 days. http://profilelist.xyz/?livestream” reads one such message.
If given a closer reading, one can easily spot that the message is a fraudulent one as it says ‘Amazon Premium’ instead of ‘Amazon Prime’. Another hint is the URL given in the message. The link reads ‘profilelist’. As per another screenshot shared in the tweet, the attackers may attempt to install malware on the user’s device to steal personal information like credit card details, passwords, photos and messages.
It is always advisable to practice caution when clicking on these bait messages/links offering free services. In most of the cases, they are tools used by cybercriminals to dupe citizens.
