Addressing a rally in Palakkad to campaign for the Kerala election 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the ruling LDF government in Kerala has betrayed the people of the state for “a few pieces of gold”. He also alleged that there is a secret understanding between the ruling LDF and the opposition UDF alliance in the southern state. He further attacked the LDF and the UDF, saying both the alliances ignore the tourism sector in Kerala. ‘Don’t believe information on WhatsApp university; COVID vaccines completely safe’: Health minister
Allaying apprehensions on the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday asserted both the Indian vaccines – Covishield and Covaxin – are “safe and effective” urging people not to believe information that is being circulated in “WhatsApp university”.
He further said that even if someone tests positive for the infection after inoculation, it minimises the chances of their hospitalisation. Read More
‘Gross violation of Model Code of Conduct’: TMC writes to EC about PM Modi’s Bangladesh visit
The Trinamool Congress party, on Tuesday, wrote to the Election Commission targetting PM Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Bangladesh as an exercise ‘solely and exclusively intended to influence the voting pattern in certain constituencies in the ongoing elections to the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal’. The party alleged that ‘no Indian PM has so brazenly indulged in an unethical and undemocratic act’. A double peace, meaning ‘peace within Afghanistan and peace around Afghanistan’, was crucial for a stable Afghanistan, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday. Addressing the ninth Ministerial Conference of Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process (HoA-IP) on Afghanistan in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Jaishankar highlighted that a ‘collective success may not be easy but the alternative is only collective failure’. Sensex surges 1,128 points to close above 50,000 mark; investors gain over Rs 3.5 lakh crore
Indian shares ended sharply higher on Tuesday catching up with gains seen in other global markets as markets reopen for trading in a holiday-shortened week. The Sensex surged 1,128 points or 2.30% to close at 50,136.58 while the NSE benchmark Nifty50 index settled 337.80 points or 2.33% higher at 14,845.10. Although there was broad-based buying visible in the market, IT shares outperformed other stocks ahead of the beginning of earnings season for the January-March quarter. Petrol and diesel prices across the major cities of the country slashed on Tuesday (March 30) on the back of softening international crude prices. After today’s rate revision, petrol prices were cut by 19-22 paise while diesel prices were reduced by 21-23 paise across the country. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a few changes in the rule-book for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. After uproar on the soft-signal rule, BCCI has decided to do away with it.
