Facebook recently rolled out its ‘Facebook Avatars’ feature for users in India. The feature allows users to create and customize the virtual cartoon lookalike that can be used to represent themselves while chatting to friends and responding to comments among others. The feature is similar to Snapchat’s Bitmoji, Apple’s Memoji, and Yahoo! Avatars (whatever happened to them?!).
Facebook avatars, just like other virtual lookalike feature allows users to customize their character across different aspects including the face, nose shape, eyebrows, hairstyle, outfits, etc, depending on their preference and liking.

Facebook also made the feature available to Europe and U.S. users recently, it was launched earlier only for Australian and New Zealand users. In case you’re wondering how to create your Facebook avatar, you first need to update your Facebook mobile app from the Google Play Store or the Apple app store.

Then open the app > tap on Hamburger Icon (three stacked horizontal lines) > scroll down > select the ‘See More’ option > select the ‘Avatars’ option. Tap the option and customize your avatar as per your choice. Voila! Your avatar is ready! Choose the pose for your avatar and that’s it. Once you have created your avatar on Facebook, it can be used as a sticker in the comments, as your animated version for profile picture, and in messenger chats. You can also use these avatars on WhatsApp.

In another Facebook-related news, the tech giant has again come under scrutiny for giving user data to third-party developers, without informing the users. The company announced in a blog post this week that “in some instances, apps continued to receive the data that people had previously authorized, even if it appeared they hadn’t used the app in the last 90 days”. It further added that it has fixed the issue and is investigating the issue to prioritize transparency around any updates.
