South Korea Professor Whose Kids Crashed TV Interview Disappoints Twitter After Latest Media Appearance: 'Where is the Baby?'

Professor Robert Kelly, whose children famously interrupted his BBC interview in 2017, was recently interviewed for Sky News, but Twitter users were disappointed and left asking “Where is the baby?”

As an American political analyst based in South Korea, Kelly was being interviewed about how South Korea is controlling a coronavirus outbreak. But Twitter users found it difficult to concentrate on what Kelly was saying as they were keeping an eye on the door behind him instead.

In March 2017, Professor Kelly was being interviewed live on BBC News when his two children interrupted the broadcast. It started when his daughter Marion walked into the office and danced towards her father, followed by her little brother James who strolled into the room in a baby walker.

Marion made herself comfortable on the bed next to the desk, while her dad tried to gently push her away and continue the interview. But Kelly’s wife, Jung-a, then burst into the room to quickly take the children away, while Kelly apologized and waited for his family to leave before continuing the interview.

The clip went viral and the video currently has more than 33 million views on YouTube. The family even became so popular that they appeared on a Korean television show in June 2017.

Kelly told The Guardian newspaper in December 2017: “For two weeks we were the most famous family on earth. I guess that’s an achievement? I don’t know, it’s still just weird more than anything else. It’s nice to think we made people happy, but it’s not really the kind of thing you’d ask for.”

This time around, Kelly was being interviewed by Sky News and was streaming from the same office as the original interview. But this time, there was no sign of his children or wife. While he mentioned that his children didn’t have school the next day due to the coronavirus outbreak, Twitter users were eagerly awaiting an appearance from the family.

Jamie Bartlett said: “Don’t believe in behavior priming? £1k if you can watch this interview without looking at the door.”

Twitter user @Davemacladd asked: “WHERE IS THE BABY”

Twitter user @Rpxadair shared a gif animation of the children from the original interview:

One twitter user said: “I can’t be the only one who expected his kid to walk in throughout”.

John King on Twitter said: “Hands up who is watching that door?”

Dave Jorgenson said: “I was hoping he would have put a comically large padlock on the door by now.”

Blake Hounshell pleaded: “Come on, Bob, just give us the content we need.”

Twitter user @iheartpylons said: “Never been more disappointed by a news report, and for reasons entirely separate from the story itself.”
