President Donald J. Trump is on his maiden visit to India as POTUS. And even though it’s a barely 3-day visit, he’s brought wife Melania Trump, daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner along for the ride. The Tumps was given a rousing welcome through the streets of Ahmedabad as they made their way to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Motera for the Namastey Trump event, where both Trump and PM Narendra Modi gave speeches.

On their way to the event, they dropped by the Sabarmati Ashram, which was one of the residences of Mahatma Gandhi. After Motera, the First Family of America headed to Agra for a quick photo-op at the Taj Mahal, where they even signed in the visitor’s book.

Over the past few days, the extravagant (and somewhat bizarre) preparations for POTUS Trump’s visit have been making the headlines—from raising a wall to block out the slums from the visiting foreign leader’s view to releasing langurs that would drive away any monkeys that might interrupt their visit to Agra, there’s been much hoo-haa.

As for Trump, his speech at the Namastey Trump event seems to have made it all worthwhile. He lavished oodles of praise no his pal, PM Modi, as well as India’s economy, its values, films, cricketers and even our Statue of Unity. Sure, he may have messed up the pronunciations of almost all the Indian names and words, but we suppose, it isn’t that ‘yuge’ an issue.

Besides, PM Modi’s ‘Doland Trump’ gaffe, spotted by many, seems to be enough payback for that!
