The Chinese gaming market scale will reach USD26 billion by the end of 2017 and mobile games will continue to be the major contributors, according to a new report.
The report from market research firm Niko Partners predicts that China's gaming market scale will reach USD35 billion by 2021. Meanwhile, its operating revenue of mobile games will exceed that of PC online games in 2018 and the mobile game revenue will account 58% of the entire Chinese gaming market by 2021.
China's 44% population currently play video games and the number will increase to 54% by 2021, which means nearly 90% Chinese netizens play video games, representing the infinite potential of this market.
Niko Partners said that over the next five years, China's gaming market will maintain rapid growth and the growth rate of mobile games could nearly represent the growth rate of the whole market, due to the insignificant increase of PC online games and gaming consoles.
Statistics show that the operating revenue of PC online games in China will only see a compound growth rate of 1.5% in the next five years, while the gaming consoles will see a compound growth rate of 1.2%.
