China’s Tencent Becomes Largest Gaming Company In The World

China's Tencent Games achieved operating revenue in 2016 of USD10.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17%, which makes it the largest online game company in the world.

With the outstanding performance, the company ranked first among the world's top 25 listed gaming companies according to market research firm Newzoo's recently published report. At the same time, Sony ranked second with USD7.84 billion and Activision Blizzard ranked third with USD6.6 billion.

During the year of 2016, those 25 listed gaming companies also achieved combined operating revenue increases of 17%, reaching USD70.4 billion. The top ten gaming companies accounted for 54% of the total operation revenue and Tencent alone accounted for 10% of the total operation revenue.

If including the operating revenue of Supercell, in which Tencent owns an 84% stake, Tencent's operating revenue would account for 13% of the total.

In addition, another Chinese company NetEase also had remarkable performance. Its operating revenue reached USD4.2 billion with an increase rate of over 50%.

Among the top ten gaming companies, Nintendo was the only one that saw an operating revenue decline. In 2016, this Japanese gaming giant realized operating revenue of USD1.8 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 6%.
