China’s Sogou.com Reported USD7 Million Revenue From Website Navigation
Wang Xiaochuan, chief executive officer of Sogou.com, said that the company’s revenue from search engine, website navigation, and games were USD22 million, USD7 million, and USD1 million, respectively, in the second quarter of 2012.
Founded in August 2004, Sogou.com is a subsidiary of Chinese portal Sohu.com. It mainly operates search engine services, input method services, free e-mail, enterprise e-mail services, and website navigation services.
According to the latest financial report of Sohu.com, during the second quarter of 2012, the total revenue of Sogou.com was USD30 million, including USD22 million from search engine sector, USD7 million from website navigation and USD1 million from games.
Wang said Sogou.com’s business model is to combine businesses of Baidu and Qihoo 360. Baidu’s major income sources are search engine and website navigation while Qihoo 360 operates website navigation and games. Wang also revealed that Sogou.com started the operation of games from the first quarter of 2012 and it is mainly engaged in the joint operation of games, aiming to turn its traffic into cash. For website navigation, the company entered this market at the end of 2011.
