Qidian.com, a Chinese Internet literature website, announced its cooperation with PayPal for overseas payment services.
According to Qidian.com, the company will formally adopt PayPal as its overseas payment channel, allowing overseas readers to use Internet payments to buy its contents via PayPal accounts.
During the year 2011, Chinese literature websites gained over 100 million visitors every month; and Qidian.com reportedly led the market with over 43% market share. The company had monthly visits of over 27 million times and its monthly effective browsing time was over 36 million hours.
In regards to the cooperation with PayPal, Shang Xuesong, co-founder and deputy general manager of Qidian.com, said that Qidian.com has established an overseas user group, and the cooperation with PayPal will provide these users with more convenient and secured paid reading experience.
Alan Tian, general manager for PayPal China, told local media this will be a win-win cooperation.
However, neither company divulged details for how the books purchased from overseas will easily be courier to overseas destinations. Companies like Amazon have customs and tariff issues sometimes when mailing books from overseas into China, so Qidian.com users who purchase books online may face similar problems.
