China’s Tencent Net Profit Up 56.2% In 2010

Chinese Internet company Tencent has published its annual financial report for 2010, stating that its net profit increased by 56.2% year-on-year to CNY8.054 billion.

Tencent said that due to the good performances of its three major business sectors — Internet value-added services; mobile and telecom value-added services; and Internet advertising — the company achieved operating revenue of CNY19.646 billion in 2010, a year-on-year increase of 57.9%; and its net profit was CNY8.054 billion, a year-on-year increase of 56.2%.

The Chinese Internet market saw prosperous development last year and the number of Chinese Internet user increased by 19.1% to 460 million. In this good market environment, Tencent gained stable growth, and its Internet value-added services, mobile and telecom value-added services and Internet advertising businesses increased by 62.4%, 42.5%, and 42.6%, respectively.

According to Ma Huateng, chairman and chief executive officer of Tencent, the company will enhance investments in microblog and e-commerce in the future, and it plans to expand into the international market. For microblog, Tencent has already enhanced its promotion and it now has over 110 million registered users. Ma said that the company plans to reinforce its microblog business with three measures, including enhancing the capacity of the development and operating teams; increasing media outreach; and adding more contents.
