Groupon, Tencent Establish Gaopeng.com

Jointly invested by Groupon, Tencent Collaboration Fund and Yunfeng Capital, the collective buying website Gaopeng.com has been launched in China.

At present, Gaopeng.com has started to accept email registrations from users and the formal group purchase service will be available in March 2011. The company has already started advertising, peppering elevators around Beijing with posters showing the Groupon logo.

Headquartered in Beijing, Gaopeng.com will first provide selected group purchase programs related to restaurants, lifestyle services, and cultural activities in Beijing and Shanghai, and then it will branch out into other cities. Registered users will gain the latest news on group purchase on a daily basis.

A representative from Gaopeng.com told local media that Gaopeng.com will introduce the advanced group purchase business model and international service standards into the Chinese market.

The website style of Gaopeng.com will be similar to America’s Groupon.com and its programs will involve various sectors, including food, salons, spas, and entertainment.
