Chinese online gaming firm The9 has announced that it plans to introduce the game-oriented social networking site OpenFeint into the Chinese market before the end of 2010.
At the beginning of July 2010, The9 reached an investment agreement with Aurora Feint, an American mobile game developer and the developer and operator of OpenFeint, and the Chinese online game company made a strategic minority equity investment in Aurora Feint.
The latest news shows that The9 has decided to introduce Aurora Feint’s OpenFeint into China in 2010, though no detailed schedule is currently available.
OpenFeint is a gaming SNS based on mobile devices, and it is mainly applied on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platforms. With simple adding of some code, developers can turn a single game into an SNS online game. At the same time, OpenFeint provides functions like rewards to enable users to form a social network.
Statistics show that OpenFeint has integrated over 3,400 games, attracting over 40 million registered users. It recently launched an upgraded version which increased innovative functions, including the trading system for virtual tools.
