Chinese telecom operator China Unicom’s Beijing branch has recently launched a promotion by providing free trials of broadband “green” accounts to help protect Chinese youth from harmful information.
The broadband green accounts are based on China Unicom Beijing’s family broadband accounts. Users of the company’s family broadband service will gain an additional account with the suffix of “@green”. These sub-accounts, which are customized for children, allow parents to set rules to filter Internet content, block harmful information, and control the surfing time of their children.
The promotion is reportedly valid until June 30, 2010. During the limited period, users can apply for these green accounts at the business halls of China Unicom Beijing for free. After the free-trial period, this new service will charge undisclosed monthly fees.
