Chinese software and game developer Kingsoft has established a new business department and the company has launched a new online game client platform service.
An insider revealed to the local media that this new business department will be an independent unit from Kingsoft’s existing game department and Duba department. Focusing on the development of the so-called KK game client and the website Kuaikuai.cn, this new department has already been put into operation with offices in Beijing and Zhuhai.
Wan Li, former chief technology officer of Kingsoft Duba, has reportedly been appointed head of the new business department.
Starting beta tests in December 2009, Kingsoft’s KK platform aims to recommend standalone games and Flash games to users. At present, contents available on this website include domestic Chinese game products with no copyright concerns; standalone games developed by Kingsoft; foreign Flash games with no copyright concerns; and foreign standalone game products. In the future, the platform will introduce charging system to promote the legalization of standalone games. It is also expected to be opened to third-party game developers and payment service providers.
